Step 1: In a large, heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and vanilla.
Step 2: Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
Step 3: Cook, without stirring, to 290-300°F.
Step 4: Remove from heat.
Step 5: Quickly stir in baking soda.
Step 6: Mix well.
Step 7: Turn into a deep, buttered 9 x 13-inch pan.
Step 8: Cool, then break into pieces.
Step 9: Dip into melted chocolate.
