Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons oil (vegetable oil)
  • 1 yellow onion, peeled and sliced (small onion)
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • Ginger root (1 coin-size piece of ginger, peeled and minced)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tomato, whole (medium tomato, cored and chopped)
  • Salt
  • 1 steak (1 pound) beef top round (very thinly sliced, then cut into 2" × 1" pieces)
  • 2 stalks celery, trimmed and chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced (medium carrots, peeled)
  • 1/2 pound dry cappellini pasta (or bean thread noodles, if you can find it)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Fresh cilantro (1/2 bunch fresh, chopped)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat.

  • Step 2: Add onions, garlic, and ginger and sauté, stirring often, for 2 minutes.

  • Step 3: Add garam masala and tomatoes. Season to taste with salt and sauté for 2 more minutes.

  • Step 4: Add meat, celery, and carrots, cover pan, and cook for 5 minutes. Vegetables should be cooked but still crisp.

  • Step 5: Cook pasta capellini (or bean thread noodles, following package cooking directions) in a large pot of boiling salted water over high heat until just soft, about 2 minutes. Drain noodles, then add to meat mixture in pan.

  • Step 6: Cook for 1 minute, tossing noodles with vegetables and meat. Season with soy sauce. Serve garnished with cilantro.
