Step 1: In a heavy saucepan, saute side and back bacon until almost crisp.
Step 2: Add celery and onion and cook just until limp.
Step 3: Add stock and potato.
Step 4: Cover and simmer about 10 minutes.
Step 5: Add clams and simmer about 10 minutes.
Step 6: Add milk and heat to just below the boiling point.
Step 7: Add salt and pepper to taste.
