Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (or 1 teaspoon mace)
  • 1/4 cup oil (vegetable oil)
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1/3 cup water, boiling
  • 1/2 cup nuts, finely chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil or fat 3-4 inches deep in fryer or pot to 375°F.

  • Step 2: Combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg in bowl.

  • Step 3: Add oil, buttermilk, and egg, beat till smooth.

  • Step 4: Drop batter by the spoonful into hot oil, 4 or 5 at a time, and fry 3 min or until golden brown on both sides.

  • Step 5: Drain on paper towels.

  • Step 6: Combing icing sugar and water, use to glaze freshly cooked puffs.

  • Step 7: Roll glazed puff in nuts.
