  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 450.

  • Step 2: Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a bowl

  • Step 3: Cut in shortening until mixture looks like meal.

  • Step 4: Add almost all of the butter milk, just enough to make a soft, puffy, easy to roll dough.

  • Step 5: Turn out dough onto a lightly floured, cloth covered surface.

  • Step 6: Knead lightly 20 - 25 times.

  • Step 7: Roll out to almost 1/2 inch and cut with floured biscuit cutter.

  • Step 8: Place on ungreased baking sheet.

  • Step 9: Bake 10-12 min, until golden brown.
