  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 orange, whole (juiced)
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup cranberries, halved
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oven to 350

  • Step 2: Grease and flour 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.

  • Step 3: Combine all dry ingredients in large bowl and mix well.

  • Step 4: Cut in shortening.

  • Step 5: Add enough water to orange juice to make 3/4 cup and add to batter.

  • Step 6: Add egg, cheese, cranberries, nut and stir to combine.

  • Step 7: Pour batter into prepared pan.

  • Step 8: Bake 60 to 70 minute, or until wooden toothpick inserted into center of loaf come out clean.

  • Step 9: Let loaf stand 8 hours.
