Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 3/4 cups bread flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (white)
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup of milk (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1 extra-large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, sugar, salt and dry yeast.

  • Step 2: Add milk and butter and stir until well incorporated.

  • Step 3: Stir in sourdough starter.

  • Step 4: Mix in flour a little at a time until dough is easy to work with

  • Step 5: Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes.

  • Step 6: Place in a lightly greased bowl and turn once to coat. Cover with a damp cloth and allow to rise in a warm place until doubled in volume

  • Step 7: Punch dough to deflate and let rest for 15 minutes.

  • Step 8: Divide into two loaves and place on bread baking sheet. Allow to rise again until double in size

  • Step 9: Whisk egg into egg wash and brush over the tops of the loaves.

  • Step 10: Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes or until golden brown
