Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound Swiss chard
  • 2 green onions, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 5 ounce leek (1 leek, chopped about 1 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra-virgin, or vegetable oil)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry basil
  • 1 green pepper (hot pepper, seeded and sliced)
  • Black pepper and salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons water

How to Make

  • Step 1: Separate the Swiss Chard stem and leaves; rinse them well with cold water. Chop the leaves and the stem separately.

  • Step 2: Slightly dry the chopped leaves with a salad spinner or paper towel.

  • Step 3: Saute the chopped stems, onion, leek, and garlic with oil in a medium pot for 2 minutes.

  • Step 4: Add the water, basil, black pepper and salt. Cook for 1 minute.

  • Step 5: Add the Swiss chard leaves; lower the heat, and mix well. Cook for 3 minutes. Remove from the heat before the chard releases it's liquid.

  • Step 6: Add the hot sliced pepper; mix and cover. Serve this dish hot or cold.
