  • 3 Delicious (18 ounces) apples (6-ounce apples, peeled, halved, cored, and very thinly sliced)
  • 1 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes (or yams, peeled, halved lengthwise, and very thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 cup apple juice (unsweetened apple juice or cider)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

How to Make

  • Step 1: Toss apple slices with lemon juice.

  • Step 2: In a 1½-quart baking dish or casserole, arrange potatoes and apples in layers, saving the most attractive potato slices for the top layer and arranging them in a pinwheel design.

  • Step 3: Pour the apple juice or cider and the melted butter over all.

  • Step 4: Cover the casserole and bake in a preheated 350' oven 1 hour.

  • Step 5: Uncover and bake 15 minutes more.
