Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt (seasoned salt)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 4 pounds beef short ribs, boneless
  • Bacon fat (or oil, as needed)
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 3/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce (Heinz brand)
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste (seasoned salt or white salt)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the flour with garlic powder, seasoned salt, black pepper and cayenne;

  • Step 2: Add in the beef and shake to coat (you may need to do this in batches).

  • Step 3: In a large skillet heat oil bacon fat or oil over medium-high heat (use enough to coat the bottom of the skillet.

  • Step 4: Add in beef and brown on all sides.

  • Step 5: Transfer beef to slow cooker (or a Dutch oven if you are making this in the oven).

  • Step 6: In the same skillet add in onion and all remaining ingredients; cook and stir until mixture comes to a boil; pour over ribs.

  • Step 7: Cover slow cooker and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until meat is tender.
