Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds green beans (fresh, frozen, or canned green beans)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or corn oil)
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • 1 tablespoon chopped yellow onion
  • 3/4 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon basil leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water (boiling)
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, fresh)

How to Make

  • NOTE: If using canned or frozen beans, change quantities accordingly and omit sugar

  • Step 1: Wash and trim beans and cut in half.

  • Step 2: Heat oil in saucepan, peel garlic and cook till golden. Remove and discard garlic.

  • Step 3: Add onions and green pepper, cook slowly 3 minutes.

  • Step 4: Add remaining ingredients except for the cheese, cover, cook slowly 15 minutes or till beans are crisp-tender.

  • Step 5: If using Parmesan, stir in half the cheese.

  • Step 6: Turn the mixture into a serving dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese if desired.
