Step 1: In a large, heavy pot, heat butter over medium heat, add onion and saute until soft.
Step 2: Add mushrooms and garlic and saute until tender.
Step 3: Stir in flour and cook for a minute, then stir in broth a little at a time.
Step 4: Bring to a low boil, then stir in cream and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 5: Puree in a blender, add more milk or broth if needed.
