Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 to 1 1/4 pounds potatoes (peeled and shredded, 2 large baking potatoes)
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper (1 dash of)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Gruyere cheese, finely shredded (or Cheddar cheese, finely shredded pick the one you like)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place the melted butter in a 9 inch pie plate; set aside.

  • Step 2: Rinse the shredded potato; drain well. Press the potato between paper towels to remove the excess moisture.

  • Step 3: Combine the potato, egg, salt, and pepper; stir well. Add flour, and stir well.

  • Step 4: Firmly press the potato mixture into the pieplate. Sprinkle with cheese and paprika.

  • Step 5: Bake at 400° for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Step 6: To serve, cut into wedges.

  • Step 7: Garnish with sour cream and chopped green onions, if desired.
