Step 1: In a medium saucepan, heat oil or butter. Add in chopped onion and saute until soft, 2-3 minutes. Add in turmeric and rice, stir 1 minute.
Step 2: Add water or broth, garlic powder, black pepper, salt and green peas. Bring to a boil. Reduce to low heat, cover and simmer until water is absorbed and rice is cooked, about 20 minutes. Fluff rice with a fork.
