Step 1: Make a slit in sides of plums with a sharp knife; remove and discard pits but leave plums whole.

Step 4: Bring mixture to a boil over medium high heat, skimming frequently. Remove fruit from saucepan using a slotted spoon. Boil liquid until syrup registers 230 degrees F (thread stage) on a candy thermometer. Cool completely. Pour into sterilized jars and seal.
