Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (about 3 large links, casing removed)
  • 1 can (14.5 ounce) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Crushed red pepper flakes, pinch (optional)
  • 8 ounces dry farfalle pasta
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 8 ounces ricotta cheese (1 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add Italian sausage and cook until browned, about 10-12 minutes, making sure to crumble the sausage as it cooks; drain excess fat.

  • Step 2: Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

  • Step 3: Bring mixture to a simmer. Stir in pasta and 2 cups water. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat and simmer until pasta is cooked through, about 13-15 minutes.

  • Step 4: Remove from heat. Stir in mozzarella and Parmesan cheese until well combined. Using a spoon, drop dollops of ricotta cheese over the top and cover until heated through, about 2-4 minutes.

  • Step 5: Serve immediately, garnished with parsley, if desired.
