The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cornmeal (yellow)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
  • 15 (1 1/2 pounds) all-beef hot dogs (frankfurters)
  • Vegetable oil

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine the first 6 ingredients in a bowl; stir well. Add milk, egg, and shortening. Stir well.

  • Step 2: Insert a wooden skewer in the end of each frankfurter. Dip each frankfurter into batter and fry in deep hot oil (375°) for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Step 3: Drain corn dogs on paper towels.
