Step 1: Combine the first 6 ingredients in a bowl; stir well. Add milk, egg, and shortening. Stir well.
Step 2: Insert a wooden skewer in the end of each frankfurter. Dip each frankfurter into batter and fry in deep hot oil (375°) for 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 3: Drain corn dogs on paper towels.
