  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 86 grams dry orzo pasta (dry, 1/2 cup)
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 93 grams dry long grain white rice (dry, 1/2 cup)
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Salt & pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Prepare a skillet that has a tight-fitting lid.

  • Step 2: Melt the butter in the skillet over medium-low heat. Add in orzo, then cook, stirring constantly until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in onion and cook until onion becomes translucent, then add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Mix in the rice and chicken broth. Increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Add salt and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender, and the liquid has been absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
