Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup butter (or 1/2 cup shortening)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (original recipe didn't include it)
  • 1/2 cup raisins (you can omit them if you like)
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Step 2: Mix together the first 5 ingredients and set aside.

  • Step 3: Lightly grease and flour 2 8 inch round pans or a 9 x 13 inch baking dish.

  • Step 4: Cream together the butter and sugar.

  • Step 5: Add the applesauce,eggs,and vanilla making sure to mix well.

  • Step 6: Gradually add the flour mixture and mix until just until blended.

  • Step 7: Fold in walnuts and raisins.

  • Step 8: Pour batter evenly into pans.

  • Step 9: Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or if your using the baking dish bake for 35 to 40 minutes.

  • Step 10: Cool to room temperature,and frosting with Cream Cheese Frosting.
