Step 2: Heat grill or grill pan to high. Season burger patties with salt and pepper, if desired, and grill until pink, 6 minutes per side for medium. Add cheese and let melt, 1 minute.
Step 3: Meanwhile, grill onion slices and bell peppers until charred, 4 minutes. Season with salt. Once cool enough to handle, slice peppers into strips and separate onion into rings.
Step 4: Assemble burger: Spread bun bottom with marinara and top with patty, grilled peppers, onions, and basil.
