Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup butter (divided)
  • 550 grams savoy cabbage (chopped roughly, 1/2 large cabbage)
  • 93 grams dry white rice (dry, 1 cup)
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 4 ounces sliced bread (torn, about 4 slices of bread)
  • 1 to 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

How to Make

  • Step 1: Steam cabbage for about 10 minutes.

  • Step 2: In a large skillet, saute onion with garlic powder in the 1/2 cup of butter til tender. Stir in the raw rice.

  • Step 3: Add the steamed cabbage and the chicken broth. Cover and let simmer on low for 20 min.

  • Step 4: Place the torn bread in a bowl. Melt 1/4 cup butter and pour over finely torn bread crumbs. Stir together to make buttered breadcrumbs.

  • Step 5: In a buttered casserole dish, layer 1/2 the cabbage and rice mixture, then the grated cheese, and then the remaining cabbage and rice. Top with the buttered bread crumbs and Bake for 20-25 min at 350 degrees.

  • Step 6: Serve immediately.
