Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (16 ounce) tomatoes, undrained (chopped)
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
  • Hot sauce to taste
  • Bay leaf (optional)
  • 1 package (5 ounce) dry fine egg noodles
  • 1 carton (8 ounce) sour cream
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 6 green onions, chopped
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, stirring to crumble meat; drain well.

  • Step 2: Add tomato, next 6 ingredients, and if desired, bay leaf. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered, for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove and discard bay leaf. Set aside.

  • Step 3: Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain; set aside.

  • Step 4: Combine sour cream and cream cheese in a medium bowl; beat at low speed of an electric mixer until smooth. Gently stir in noodles and green onions.

  • Step 5: Place half the noodle mixture in a greased 11 x 7 x 1 1/2 inch baking dish; top with half the beef mixture. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese.

  • Step 6: Repeat the layers with remaining noodle mixture, beef mixture, and Cheddar cheese. Cover and bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

  • Step 7: Remove from oven; sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Bake 3 minutes or until the cheese melts and the mixture is hot and bubbly.
