Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 package (11 1/2 ounces) milk chocolate baking chips
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 30 (230 grams) caramels
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 128 grams dry roasted peanuts (unsalted, coarsely chopped)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine milk chocolate morsels and shortening in the top of a couble boiler; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate and shortening melt, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 2: Spread half of the chocolate mixture evenly in an aluminum foil-lined 8 inch square pan. Chill 15 minutes or until firm. (Keep remaining chocolate mixture warm.)

  • Step 3: Combine caramels, butter, and water in the top of a double boiler; bring water in bottom of double boiler to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Stir in peanuts; let cool slightly.

  • Step 4: Spread caramel mixture over the chilled chocolate mixture.

  • Step 5: Chill for 15 minutes; spread the remaining warm chocolate mixture evenly over caramel mixture.

  • Step 6: Chill for 1 hour or until firm. Cut into squares.

  • Step 7: This makes 1 3/4 pounds of candy.
