Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 slices (2 ounces) rye bread
  • 2 slices (2 ounces) white bread
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • 3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oregano, dried

How to Make

  • Step 1: Grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.

  • Step 2: In a bowl place the breads and then pour 1 cup of water over - let soak 5 minutes; drain off excess water. Mash bread with a fork. Add the next 7 ingredients (- pepper) and mix well to combine. Transfer to prepared loaf pan -- can be prepared 6 hours ahead and chilled.

  • Step 3: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Step 4: Bake for 30 minutes. Pour tomato sauce over and sprinkle with oregano. Bake 20 more minutes. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
