Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound Italian sausage meat (or ground beef, it's not as good with beef though)
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped (green or red)
  • 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 can (14 ounce) beef broth
  • 1 package (12 ounce) dry spaghetti pasta (use Barilla PRONTO spaghetti)
  • 2 cans (14.5 ounce) diced tomatoes (with basil, garlic and oregano- separated, each can 14.5 ounce)
  • 1 can (6 ounce) tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese (more to serve)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large pot or dutch oven, add onion, garlic and sausage meat; cook for about 10 minutes until the meat is browned and cooked through (break the meat up as it cooks). Drain off any grease.

  • Step 2: Add the green bell pepper, mushrooms, water, broth, and the dried uncooked pasta; bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 5 minutes or (until the pasta is al dente).

  • Step 3: While the pasta cooks add one can of tomatoes to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Add the diced and blended tomatoes, tomato paste, and spices to the pot, add salt and pepper, and mix to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the spaghetti is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.

  • Step 4: Stir in Parmesan cheese just before serving. Serve immediately topped with additional grated Parmesan cheese.
