Step 1: Combine flours in a small bowl and add margarine and using your fingertips rub in until well combined (I would use a small food processor).
Step 2: Add egg yolk, Equal Spoonful and milk and using a flat bladed knife, sir until mixture comes together (once again I would do it in the food processor).
Step 3: Shape dough into 12 small balls and set aside.
Step 4: To make syrup, put all the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer over a high heat and then reduce heat to medium and cook for 5 minutes.
Step 5: Reduce heat to medium low and add dumplings to pan and cook, covered for 5 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre of dumplings comes out clean.
Step 6: Using a slotted spoon, transfer 3 dumplings to each serving bowl.
Step 7: Increase heat to high and cook syrup for a further 5 minutes or until reduced by half.
Step 8: Spoon about 1 tablespoon syrup into each bowl and serve.
