Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 cups water
  • 3/4 cup grits (quick grits)
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar, shredded, 2 cups, divided)
  • 3/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup butter (or margarine, softened)
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • Hot sauce (6 to 12 drops)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat you oven to 375°F. Grease 2-quart baking dish.

  • Step 2: Bring water to a boil in medium saucepan; slowly stir in grits. Cover pan; reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 6 minutes. Cool slightly.

  • Step 3: Add in 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese, evaporated milk and soft butter to saucepan; stir until cheese and butter are melted. Add eggs, hot pepper sauce pepper and salt; stir well. Pour into prepared baking dish; sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese.

  • Step 4: Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and puffy. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
