Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 can (15 ounce) chopped tomatoes (don't drain, I used San Marzano)
  • 3/4 cup beer (Guinness)
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled and lightly smashed
  • 2 tablespoons mustard (whole grain mustard)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (white)
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Base ... Add the olive oil to a small pot; and, bring to medium heat. Add the onions, garlic clove, and red pepper flakes; and, saute for 5 minutes - then, remove the garlic clove. Add all the other ingredients; and, bring to a light boil. Then, reduce to medium low to low heat; and, simmer for 50 minutes.

  • Step 2: Finish ... After the sauce has thickened; puree the ketchup using an immersion blender; or classic blender. You want the sauce really smooth. Transfer to a mason jar or storage container to cool. Once cooled - put a lid on the jar or container; and refrigerate. I prefer to use a mason jar. This as mentioned, will last 2 weeks in the refrigerator; but, it freezes well too.

  • Step 3: I usually make this for a party / entertaining; so, I usually make a double batch. I can always freeze the leftovers. I use this not only ON my 'Sarasota's Guinness Burger - http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/sarasotas-guinness-burger-23354' ... but IN my burger too. And, with my fries as well. Also, delicious on grilled hot dogs and brats; or with onion rings.

  • Step 4: Simply ENJOY!
