Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: Generously grease 2 - 8" round pans.
Step 3: Gradually beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually slowly, add in 1/2 cup of sugar, continue beating until stiff.
Step 4: In a mixing bowl; sift dry ingredients.
Step 5: Add oil and half of milk. Beat until well blended. Add remaining milk and egg yolks. Beat until smooth. Fold in stiff egg whites.
Step 6: Divide batter into prepared pans.
Step 7: Bake for 30-35 minutes.
Step 8: Cool and slice each layer in half, horizontally, to make 4 layers.
Step 9: Note: Optional to bake in a 9x13-inch baking pan.
Step 10: Frost with Dobash frosting.
Step 11: In a saucepan over medium heat; whisk together water, sugar, salt, butter and cocoa. Bring to a boil.
Step 12: In a mixing bowl; combine cornstarch and water. Whisk into cocoa mixture; stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Stir in vanilla.
Step 13: Pour frosting over cake while still hot; spread evenly with a spatula
