Step 1: Combine apples, sugar and water in a saucepan.
Step 2: Bring to a boil.
Step 3: Cook for 3 minutes.
Step 4: Melt butter in a large saucepan.
Step 5: Add onions.
Step 6: Saute for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Step 7: Add potatoes, salt, cider and apple mixture, including any liquid.
Step 8: Cover and cook for 30 minutes, or until very soft.
Step 9: Serve hot.
