  • 3/4 pound apples (2 apples, peeled, cored and quartered)
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 yellow onion (sliced)
  • 2 1/2 to 3 pounds potatoes (6 potatoes, peeled and cubed)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons cider

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine apples, sugar and water in a saucepan.

  • Step 2: Bring to a boil.

  • Step 3: Cook for 3 minutes.

  • Step 4: Melt butter in a large saucepan.

  • Step 5: Add onions.

  • Step 6: Saute for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

  • Step 7: Add potatoes, salt, cider and apple mixture, including any liquid.

  • Step 8: Cover and cook for 30 minutes, or until very soft.
