Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 pounds smoked ham hocks (it said 3 hocks i use one myself)
  • 2 pounds dry pinto beans (washed & cleaned)
  • 1 yellow onion (chopped)
  • 3 garlic cloves, mashed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper, to taste
  • 1 jalapeno pepper (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Place ham hocks, onion and garlic into a large cooking pot.

  • Step 2: Add enough water to fill the pot about 3/4 full.

  • Step 3: Boil 1 to 2 hours or until the hocks are tender.

  • Step 4: Season

  • Step 5: Add pinto beans and water as necessary and continue cooking 1 to 2 hours more until the beans are done.

  • Step 6: If you soaked the beans before hand, the time required for this part may be reduced.

  • Step 7: If you like them zesty, a couple of Jalapeno peppers may be added here.
