Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 pounds beef round (1 inch cubed, lean round of beef)
  • 3 tablespoons lard
  • 3 yellow onions (sliced thin)
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon marjoram,
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Pepper, dash
  • 24 ounces green bell peppers (4 peppers, diced)
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt lard in a skillet and brown the sliced onions.

  • Step 2: Remove the onions and place them in a Dutch oven.

  • Step 3: Brown the beef in the same pan drippings.

  • Step 4: Add paprika, marjoram, garlic and some salt and pepper (to taste). Stir the mixture in the skillet; then pour it all into the dutch oven.

  • Step 5: Add the green peppers to the dutch oven.

  • Step 6: Add enough beef broth to the dutch oven to cover. Simmer for 60 minutes.

  • Step 7: Cream the flour sour cream together.

  • Step 8: Stir into the sauce and cook, stirring often, until the goulash is smooth and thickened.

  • Step 9: Add the caraway seeds and cook a little longer.

  • Step 10: Before serving, add more salt and pepper if needed.

  • Step 11: Serve over rice or noodles.
