Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons beef bouillon powder
  • 80 grams dry barley (quick cook barley, 1/2 cup uncooked)
  • 98 grams dried split peas (1/2 cup dried)
  • 80 grams dry rice (do not use instant, 1/2 cup uncooked)
  • 100 grams dry lentils (1/2 cup dry)
  • 85 grams dry alphabet pasta (1/2 cup uncooked)
  • 120 grams dry spiral pasta (1 cup dry tri-colored spiral macaroni)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a small zip-type bag, add and mix the onion, parsley, salt, lemon pepper and bouillon.

  • Step 2: Using a canning funnel, layer the ingredients in this order in a 1-quart jar: Barley, peas, rice and lentils, small pasta. Add the zip-type bag with the seasonings. Fill rest of jar with the spiral macaroni. Seal the jar.

  • Step 3: Attach the following instructions on a gift tag:

  • Step 4: Contents of jar

  • Step 5: 3 quarts water

  • Step 6: 2 stalks celery, chopped

  • Step 7: 2 sliced carrots

  • Step 8: 1 cup shredded cabbage

  • Step 9: 2 cups diced tomatoes

  • Step 10: Put all ingredients into a stockpot over medium low heat. Cover and simmer about 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender.
