Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage (light, mild, 227 grams)
  • 3/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 2 cups thinly sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoons minced fresh oregano (or basil leaves, or 1 tsp dried)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 pizza crust (12-inch prebaked whole-grain thin crust)
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded low-fat provolone cheese (packed)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 425F.

  • Step 2: Spray a 10" non-stick skillet with cooking spray or add a bit of olive oil.

  • Step 3: Remove and discard casing from sausage.

  • Step 4: Break or cut sausage into small pieces and add to skillet along with the onions.

  • Step 5: Cook and stir over medium-high heat until sausage is cooked through and onions begin to soften, about 3 minutes.

  • Step 6: Break up any large pieces of sausage as it is cooking.

  • Step 7: Stir in mushrooms and cook until mushrooms are tender about 5 more minutes.

  • Step 8: Add oregano, mix well and remove from heat.

  • Step 9: Spread pizza sauce evenly over crust.

  • Step 10: Top with Parmesan cheese.

  • Step 11: Spoon sausage mixture evenly over cheese.

  • Step 12: Sprinkle provolone evenly over sausage mixture.

  • Step 13: Place pizza directly on middle oven rack and bake for about 10 minutes, until cheese is completely melted and edges are lightly browned.
