Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F.
Step 2: Combine 1/2 cup sugar, cocoa, hot water and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in a small bowl. Set aside.
Step 3: In another mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup sugar, egg and oil, then add remaining ingredients.
Step 4: Pour creamed mixture into the pie crust and then pour chocolate mixture on top.
Step 5: Bake for approximately 45 minutes. Test with a wooden pick for doneness.
