  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup maple syrup (pure)
  • 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt, pinch
  • 1 cup walnuts (coarsely chopped)
  • FROSTING
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
  • Pure maple syrup, as needed

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly coat an 8-square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

  • Step 2: Beat together butter, eggs, and syrup.

  • Step 3: Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt, and stir into butter mixture gradually. Beat with whisk until smooth fold in walnuts.

  • Step 4: Pour into a greased square pan and bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

  • Step 5: Let cool completely in pan on wire rack before frosting.

  • Step 6: To make frosting, Melt butter and blend in the powdered sugar. Add just enough maple syrup yo bring it to spreading consistency.

  • Step 7: Frost top of cake and serve.
