  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
  • LEMON HARD SAUCE
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1 lemon (zest of)
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

How to Make

  • FOR THE PANCAKES

  • Step 1: Sift together the first 9 ingredients in a large bowl. Add egg, buttermilk, water, melted butter, and brown sugar, stirring until blended.

  • Step 2: For each pancake, pour about 1/4 cup batter onto a hot, lightly greased griddle. Turn pancakes when the tops are covered with bubbles and edges look cooked. Serve 3 to a stack with Lemon Hard Sauce.

  • FOR THE LEMON HARD SAUCE

  • Step 3: Cream the butter; gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add the lemon zest and juice; beat until smooth.
