Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 small yellow onion
  • 3/4 pound beef flank steak, thinly sliced (or top sirloin)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoon sake
  • 4 tablespoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 3 cups rice (hot, cooked)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (white and green parts)
  • Pickled red ginger, for garnish

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cut the onion thin slices and cut the meat into small pieces.

  • Step 2: Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium high heat and cook the onions until tender. Add the meat and sugar and cook until browned.

  • Step 3: Add sake, mirin, and soy sauce. Reduce the heat and simmer 5 minutes.

  • Step 4: Slowly drizzle the beaten egg over the beef. Cook until the egg is done. Add the green onions right before removing from the heat.

  • Step 5: Divide hot cooked rice between two large bowls. Divide the beef and egg on top of rice and pour desired amount of sauce over rice.

  • Step 6: Top with pickled red ginger.
