Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/2 to 3 pounds beef round steak (cut into thin strips)
  • 2 green peppers, sliced thin
  • 2 yellow onions, sliced thin
  • 3 cups beef stock
  • 2 teaspoons garlic salt,(use garlic powder and omit the garlic salt, to lower the sodium)
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 envelope dry Italian dressing mix
  • 12 to 24 ounces French bread (1 to 2 large loaves French bread, sliced into sandwich lengths, or 6-8 sub rolls)
  • Provolone cheese slices
  • Button mushrooms, sliced thin, sauteed in butter, optional

How to Make

  • Step 1: Spray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray, or use a slow cooker liner.

  • Step 2: Cut meat into thin strips, and place in slow cooker.

  • Step 3: Add green pepper, onions, stock, garlic salt, pepper and dressing mix.

  • Step 4: Cover and cook on Low 7-8 hours, or High for 3-4 hours.

  • Step 5: Spoon meat mixture onto toasted French bread or sub rolls.

  • Step 6: Top with cheese.

  • Step 7: Place the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for an additional few minutes to melt the cheese and toast the sandwich.

  • Step 8: You can also serve with sliced sauteed mushrooms on top.
