Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 16 ounces rice (2 cups dry)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 star anise
  • 1/16 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 clove
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder (Madras)
  • 1/8 teaspoon fennel seed
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, crushed
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 yellow onions, diced
  • 1 pound beef (steaks, tenderized so it doesn't have to cook as long)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 potato, diced
  • 1 green chili pepper, minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: In pan, melt butter. Add clove, star anise and fennel brown a minute. Add garlic and ginger; brown. Add onions add beef and brown, may need to add a little more butter.

  • Step 2: Add spices and brown.

  • Step 3: Add potato, brown a little.

  • Step 4: Add broth, drained rice, green chili, salt and pepper; cover and simmer 20 minutes or until rice is cooked.
