Step 1: 1. In 3-1/2-quart kettle, combine peas and 1 quart water;
Step 2: Bring to boiling.
Step 3: Reduce heat;
Step 4: Simmer, covered, 45 minutes.
Step 5: Add more water if necessary.
Step 6: 2. Add ham bone and rest of ingredients, except ham;
Step 7: Simmer, covered, 1-1/2 hours.
Step 8: 3. Remove ham bone,
Step 9: And discard.
Step 10: 4. Press vegetables and liquid through coarse sieve.
Step 11: 5. Remove to kettle.
Step 12: Add ham;
Step 13: Reheat slowly until thoroughly hot.
