Step 1: In a bowl or large measuring cup mix together the oil, vinegar and spices (oil - pepper) and then stir in the onion, basil, capers and garlic.
Step 2: Spoon some marinade on the bottom of a large baking dish. Top with a layer of tomatoes, top with some more marinade and then another layer of tomatoes and finally top with the remaining marinade; cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving.
