Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound dried split peas (dried 2 cups green or yellow)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, peeled and chopped (1 large onion)
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 8 ounce potato, peeled and diced (1 large russet potato)
  • 6 ounces carrots, peeled and sliced (2 carrots)
  • 2 ounce stalk celery, thinly sliced
  • 1 ham bone (or 1 small ham steak, diced)
  • 2 teaspoons dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, ground
  • 8 cups water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Rinse dried split peas in a colander under cold water.

  • Step 2: Heat oil in pressure cooker over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until onion is soft.

  • Step 3: Add potato, carrots, celery, ham bone, marjoram salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.

  • Step 4: Add peas and water.

  • Step 5: Cover, lock lid and bring to pressure over high heat. Lower heat to stabilize pressure and cook for 10 minutes.

  • Step 6: Remove from heat and use quick-release method to drop pressure.

  • Step 7: Unlock and remove lid. Season with salt and pepper to taste and stir well before serving.
