Step 1: Brown butter in saucepan over low heat. Add brown sugar and hot water (careful-it may splatter).
Step 2: In a bowl, beat egg yolks, flour, evaporated milk, salt and cornstarch with a whisk.
Step 3: Add milk mixture slowly to butter mixture, whisking while doing so.
Step 4: Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly.
Step 5: Remove from heat; add vanilla. Pour into prepared crust and refrigerate for 2 hours.
