Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • 3/4 cup crushed crackers (saltines)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper (to taste)
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 6 ounces bacon (thinly sliced Canadian bacon)
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese slices

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Step 2: Combine egg, crumbs, herbs, salt and pepper in a large bowl.

  • Step 3: Add beef and mix well.

  • Step 4: Place mixture on a large piece of foil or waxed paper and pat into a 10"x8" rectangle.

  • Step 5: Arrange Canadian bacon slices over beef mixture, leaving a small margin at edges.

  • Step 6: Set aside 2 slices of cheese.

  • Step 7: Tear remaining cheese into smaller pieces and sprinkle over Canadian bacon.

  • Step 8: Starting from short end, roll up meat, using the foil to lift it.

  • Step 9: Press edges and ends to seal.

  • Step 10: Place in a 13"x9" baking pan, seam side down.

  • Step 11: Bake until cooked through, about 1 1/4 hours.

  • Step 12: Cut remaining cheese slices in half.

  • Step 13: Place cheese on top of meat.

  • Step 14: Return to oven until cheese melts.
