The ingredients are:
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Salt and pepper
  • 225 ml olive oil (8 ounces)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How to Make

  • Step 1: NOTE: This can also be made in a blender or food processor.

  • Step 2: Crush the garlic in a garlic crusher or pestle and mortar or alternatively chop very finely. Mix the egg yolk a pinch of salt in a bowl. Add the oil drop by drop (as if making a mayonnaise), beating constantly.

  • Step 3: When the sauce is thick season with the salt and pepper and stir in the lemon juice.

  • Step 4: Serve.
