Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 8 slices white (8 ounces) bread
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped (4 ounces) yellow onion
  • 1 head shredded iceberg (16 ounces) lettuce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

How to Make

  • Step 1: Toast all eight pieces of bread until just lightly golden-brown. Let cool and cut into cubes; set aside.

  • Step 2: Brown and drain the extra lean ground beef with the dried onion flakes. Let cool.

  • Step 3: In a large bowl, combine the cooked and cooled ground beef, toasted bread cubes, finely chopped onions, shredded lettuce and cheese; toss well. Place in a large salad/serving bowl.

  • Step 4: In a separate small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise,horseradish ketchup, relish, and pepper.

  • Step 5: Drizzle the dressing over the salad. Toss everything to evenly coat salad.

  • Step 6: Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
