Step 1: Wash and soak beans in clear water overnight.
Step 2: Drain and cover beans with fresh water. Cook in a 5-quart saucepan, adding water from time to time as needed (boiled water).
Step 3: When half cooked, add crushed tomatoes, garlic and cornstarch. Continue cooking until beans are fully cooked.
Step 4: In a separate frying pan, sauté chopped onion and green pepper with butter until only glossy.
Step 5: Add black pepper, paprika and salt, pour into beans and simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 6: *VARIATIONS:
Step 7: LENTILS made same way as above.
Step 8: LIMA BEANS made same way as above.
Step 9: Serves 4-6.
