  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (Kentucky)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup chocolate sauce (prepared like Smuckers)
  • 1 (9-inch) pie shell (pre-baked)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon mint extract
  • Chocolate curls, garnish

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a saucepan over medium heat bring the milk, sugar and cornstarch to a boil.

  • Step 2: In a heatproof bowl whisk egg and yolks together until mixture is smooth and lightened in color. Very slowly pour hot milk over the egg mixture, whisking constantly. Pour mixture back into the saucepan and return to heat.

  • Step 3: Cook mixture, whisking constantly until thick (3-5 minutes). Remove from heat. Stir in bourbon, butter and chocolate sauce. Cool completely at room temperature.

  • Step 4: Pour mixture into pie shell and smooth top.

  • Step 5: In the bowl of an electric mixer, whip cream until soft peaks form. Add confectioners' sugar and mint extract and continue beating until medium peaks form. top pie with whipped cream.

  • Step 6: Chill for at least 4 hours. Garnish with chocolate curls, if desired.
