Step 1: Prepare a 3-quart glass serving bowl or trifle bowl.
Step 2: Stir boiling water into gelatin in a large bowl at least 2 minutes or until completely dissolved (can add sugar for a sweeter taste if desired).
Step 3: Stir in the ice cubes until melted.
Step 4: Mix in the cherry pie filling until combined.
Step 5: Place all the cake cubes in the the bottom of the bowl.
Step 6: Spoon the gelatin mixture over cake cubes.
Step 7: Refrigerate for 20 minutes or until set but not firm.
Step 8: Pour the 1-1/2 cups half and half cream into large bowl; add pudding mix, then whisk or beat on low speed for about 1 minute.
Step 9: Gently stir in 1/2 of the Cool Whip whipped topping, then spoon over the gelatin mixture in a bowl.
Step 10: Refrigerate 3 hours or more or until set.
Step 11: Garnish with remaining Cool Whip topping.
